AI Processing (BYOK)
Configure Bring-Your-Own-Key settings for automated bug triage.
What is an API Key?
An API key is simply a secure password that allows Bug Pocket to securely communicate with an AI on your behalf. Because AI processing can be expensive, bringing your own key guarantees your privacy and lets you use the best models for free.
Option A: Google AI Studio (Recommended)
Google offers generous free tiers for their state-of-the-art models.
- Go to Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- Click Get API Key in the sidebar.
- Click the Create API Key button.
- Copy the generated key. (Keep it a secret!)
- Note: In Bug Pocket, the default model is configured for Gemini 3.5 Flash for blazing-fast triage.
Option B: OpenRouter
OpenRouter is a fantastic alternative that provides access to free, community-hosted AI models.
- Go to OpenRouter.ai and sign up.
- Navigate to the Keys tab in your account dashboard.
- Click Create Key, give it a name like "Bug Pocket", and click Create.
- Copy the generated key.
- Note: In Bug Pocket, selecting OpenRouter will automatically default to the free
google/gemma-4-31b-it:freemodel.
Connecting Your Key
Now that you have your key, let's wire it up:
- Open Bug Pocket and navigate to Settings > AI Processing.
- Select your provider (Gemini or OpenRouter) from the Provider dropdown.
- Paste your copied key into the API Key field.
- Click Save. The AI is now ready to format your captures!
Privacy & Security
Your data stays yours. Your API key is securely encrypted locally on your machine and is never sent to our servers. When you trigger AI Triage on a capture containing screenshots, the images are automatically resized to be highly efficient, and all local filenames and computer paths are completely stripped before transmission.
